In just a decade, these numbers have nearly doubled. In today’s episode, we talk with Dr. Katie Reeves, health researcher and Nurse Practitioner who specializes in the care of anxious, suicidal, and self-harming teens and their families. We explore the prevalence of mental health challenges among adolescent girls, from social pressures to the influence of social media and more. Dr. Katie Reeves is a precision health researcher, entrepreneur, and Nurse Practitioner, specializing in the care of anxious, suicidal, and self-harming teens and their families.
She received her Bachelor of Science from Columbia University and her Master of Science from the University of California, San Francisco before starting her clinical career in outpatient child and adolescent psychiatry. Years later she furthered her commitment to understanding mental illness by receiving her PhD from the University of California, San Francisco, where she used complex computational methods to explain moment to moment changes in adolescent suicidal thought.
Currently, Dr. Reeves is a Fellow in the National Clinician Scholar Program at UCSF where she studies the application of precision medicine in mental health care. She is also the Founder of Bedlam Health Inc., a company building clinical software to integrate cutting edge technology with compassion and human centered mental health care. Despite involvement in various projects, she continues to be grounded in clinical work, seeing adolescents and young adults for therapy and psychiatry services through her private practice in San Francisco.
