Episode 6, Season 1 | November 4, 2020
Join host Cindy Lopez and her guests as they discuss how a family culture of compassion can really open hearts and minds. Therapist Kendra Evans and Occupational Therapist Vibha Pathak draw from their professional experiences working with kids of all ages – and raising their own children – to help us cultivate a compassionate and unjudging community, starting at home. No surprise here: compassion starts with us.
In this episode, Kendra, Vibha and Cindy share about expanding a sense of fairness among siblings, seeing the meaning behind online/digital behavior, and how noticing differences among us can contribute to mindfulness. They also share specific strategies to teach compassion and discuss the link between compassion and mental health.
Kendra has nearly 20 years’ experience working with children and their families in outpatient, residential, school and home settings developing strategies with parents and teachers and using social cognitive and behavioral interventions with children who have difficulties with peers, impulse regulation or anxiety.
Vibha discovered a passion for working with children with special needs in high school when she volunteered at an inclusive preschool. With two children herself, she realizes the value of the time and sustained energy needed for meaningful relationships as a family. She believes that therapy for the child should be so ingrained in the daily routine that it fits in naturally with the child’s schedule.
